What are the wife's rights after divorce if she insists on it without a reason, given the existence of a list of movables and a deferred dowry? And does the husband incur a sin if he gives her nothing due to his lack of money?
A wife is not entitled to seek divorce without a valid reason. It has been reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Any woman who asks her husband for a divorce without a valid reason, the scent of Paradise will be forbidden to her." If the wife requests a divorce and insists upon it, then everything the husband has given her and registered in her name is her property, and likewise, the deferred mahr (dowry) is a debt owed to her. The wife is not entitled to mut'ah (compensatory gift) if she is the one who chose to seek the divorce. Nevertheless, the husband may divorce her through khul' (a form of divorce initiated by the wife in exchange for compensation) in return for what he has written for her or in return for the deferred mahr.
