As a doctor, is it permissible for me to assist a pregnant woman – who became pregnant as a result of sexual assault by her brother – in having an abortion, given that she is threatening suicide and fears for her life from her family if they find to learn of her pregnancy?

Aborting the fetus is forbidden, even if it is in the nutfah (sperm/zygote) stage, unless its continued presence poses a danger to the mother's life. In such a case, it is permissible to adopt the view of those who permit abortion out of necessity, to alleviate hardship.

We also warn against the grave danger of incest and the obligation to be cautious against being lenient with it. Both parties are obligated to offer sincere repentance for this act.
