Is it permissible to search for a girl in a group photo, by looking at all the girls, to find out her name and then inquire about her marital status with the aim of despairing of reaching her and getting rid of the pains of love?

It is not permissible to look at pictures of foreign girls with the intention of becoming attached to them, as this contains clear corruption, and it does not guarantee that the infatuation will cease upon her marriage. One can make oneself despair of her by staying away from her and her news.

The advice is to fill the heart with faith in Allah and His Oneness, to ponder over His signs, to fear His wrath, and to supplicate to Him to avert what is found. The remedy for this deadly disease is to know the Oneness of Allah, to perform abundant outward and inward acts of worship, and to frequently resort to and humble oneself before Allah. The best remedy is sincerity to Allah, for if the heart performs its actions sincerely for Allah, the love of images cannot take hold of it; because it can only take hold of an empty heart, as Allah Almighty says: "Thus [it was] that We might avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants." (Yusuf: 24).
