The presence of gold in the internal components of electronic devices does not render the study of programming or the profession based upon it unlawful. It has previously been permissible for both men and women to use devices containing a minute concentration of gold that is secondary to other materials, provided that their use does not constitute extravagance. Al-Nawawi transmitted a consensus on the unlawfulness of men and women using gold and silver for eating, drinking, purification, and all other forms of use, except for the adornment that a woman wears from jewelry for those to whom she is permitted to display her adornment.
