How is the inheritance distributed to a mother and a full brother?

If the deceased leaves behind only his mother and a full brother, the mother receives one-third as a prescribed share, based on the Almighty's saying: "And if he had no child and his parents inherited him, then for his mother is one-third." The remainder goes to his full brother by virtue of ta'sib (residuary heirship), based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Give the prescribed shares to those entitled to them, and what remains is for the closest male." Thus, the inheritance is divided into three shares: one share for the mother, and two shares for the full brother. We would like to point out that matters of inheritance are serious and complex, and a mere fatwa is not sufficient. Rather, they must be referred to the Sharia courts for investigation and consideration of wills, debts, and other rights that take precedence over the rights of the heirs.
