Are Salatul-Layl (the Night Prayer) and Qiyamul-Layl (standing in prayer at night) two names for one and the same thing, or do they differ in concept?

"Salat al-Layl" (the night prayer) is "Qiyam al-Layl" (standing in the night), and vice versa. Both terms have been used in the Sunnah to denote the same meaning, such as Allah's saying: "Qum al-Layl" (Stand [for prayer] throughout the night), meaning stand for prayer. The term "Qiyam al-Layl" may also be used to mean reviving the night with worship in general, such as prayer, glorification (tasbih), and reading the Quran. In this sense, it is more general than "Salat al-Layl."
