Is it permissible to spit to the left and seek refuge in Allah from Satan and the evil of what was seen for all previous dreams, the nature of which is unknown—whether they were good or bad—and for good dreams the meaning of which is unknown, out of fear of their evil?
The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, guided anyone who sees something disliked in a dream to spit lightly to their left three times and seek refuge with Allah from Satan; for indeed, that will protect them from harm. The light spitting should be done immediately upon seeing the disliked thing; otherwise, seeking refuge may still be beneficial. There is no harm in seeking refuge from the evil of a dream if it is unclear, whether its evil becomes apparent or not. Seeking refuge from a good dream on the possibility that it might contain evil is not warranted and could be a whisper (from Satan); therefore, one should disregard that and rely upon Allah, and maintain the lawful etiquette of sleep to avoid bad dreams.
