Does the fact that the Messenger (peace be upon him) did not guide towards masturbation mean it is forbidden, and does the context of the verse in Surat Al-Mu'minun refer to sexual intercourse?

The proofs for the prohibition of masturbation are numerous. Among them is the fact that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not guide to it despite his compassion for his Ummah; rather, he guided young people to fasting. Another proof is what Al-Shafi'i, Malik, and other scholars used to deduce the prohibition of masturbation from the noble verse: (And those who guard their private parts Except from their wives or those whom their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors) [Al-Mu'minun: 5-7]. This verse, in its generality, indicates the prohibition of masturbation by hand, because whoever seeks pleasure with his hand until he ejaculates has sought beyond what Allah has made lawful, and thus he is among the transgressors. This is a correct deduction from the Book of Allah, and there is nothing from the Book or Sunnah that contradicts it. As for what was narrated from Imam Ahmad regarding the permissibility of masturbation by analogy, considering it the expulsion of an excess that necessity calls for expelling, this is incorrect; because it is an analogy that contradicts the apparent generality of the Qur'an.
