Is it permissible for a Muslim to ponder the verses of the Holy Quran and derive benefits from them, such as interpreting His (Allah's) saying: "For whoever wills among you to proceed or to remain behind" as referring to guidance and life, and His saying: "And Allah hears your dialogue; indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing" as referring to phone calls?

Contemplation of Allah's verses is required to understand His true words and act upon them, and to increase humility. It is not permissible to interpret the Quran based on opinion; rather, one should rely on accredited tafsir (exegesis) books.

The meaning of His, the Almighty's, saying: "For whoever wills among you to proceed or regress" means for whoever wills to advance towards goodness and faith, or regress towards evil and disobedience. Progress here means guidance and obedience.

As for the interpretation of His, the Almighty's, saying: "All-Hearing, All-Seeing," its meaning is that Allah, glorified and exalted be He, hears everything that is heard and sees everything that is seen, and He knows the secret and what is even more hidden.
