What is the authenticity of interacting with the verses of the Noble Quran by asking Allah for good when reading verses about Paradise and provision, and seeking refuge in Him from evil when reading verses about Hellfire and torment? And is what is meant by "seekingفضل (فضل: grace, bounty, favor)" in the Hadith about the crowing of roosters limited to provision only, or does it include every matter a Muslim desires?
The most important manners of reciting the Holy Quran are to ponder its meanings and interact with them. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the righteous predecessors would reflect on its meanings, supplicate, ask, and seek refuge when reciting. In Sahih Muslim, it is narrated from Hudhayfah that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when he passed by an ayah of glorification, he would glorify; when he passed by an ayah of asking, he would ask; and when he passed by an ayah of seeking refuge, he would seek refuge. Pondering the meanings of the Quran and supplicating at ayahs of mercy and seeking refuge at ayahs of punishment is done at all times, except during obligatory prayers. As for hearing the crowing of roosters, one should ask Allah for His bounty because they have seen an angel. And upon hearing the braying of a donkey, one should seek refuge with Allah from Satan because it has seen a devil. A Muslim should ask his Lord for the good of this world and the hereafter at this time, which is a likely time for prayers to be answered.
