Is the sheikh's interpretation of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying, "Hearts are between two fingers of the Most Merciful; He turns them however He wills," as 'the finger signifies power' considered an allegorical interpretation of the divine attributes, and what is the ruling on listening to the sheikh without fully understanding his intention?

The interpretation of "finger" in the Hadith (definition) as power or bounty is among the innovative interpretations of Allah's attributes, and it has not been transmitted from the righteous predecessors. Rather, what is established from them is refraining from interpretation and how-ness, and that the attributes should be passed on as they came, without how-ness. The imams have unanimously agreed upon affirming the attribute of "fingers" for Allah Almighty, while entrusting the knowledge of their how-ness to Him, based on authentic Ahadith. As for the interpretation of some scholars regarding it, it is unacceptable, even if they have their excuse, and whoever interprets it should be advised to refer to the books of the predecessors.
