Is the failure of children to contact their father, who only contacts them at long intervals and causes problems due to his wife, considered a severing of the ties of kinship for which they will be held accountable?

A father must care for his children and inquire about them, for they are his flock about whom he will be questioned on the Day of Judgment, in accordance with the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "A man is a shepherd over his family and is responsible for his flock." As for the children, they must honor their parents even if the father falls short in his duties towards them, because honoring parents is one of the most obligatory duties and is not forfeited by the father's shortcomings or disbelief. This is based on the Almighty's saying: (And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him and that you be dutiful to your parents) and His saying: (But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness). Both are responsible for their shortcomings.
