Is the mother's refusal to wear the head covering (khimar) and the father's disapproval of her work considered part of a wife's disobedience to her husband, for which severe warnings are given in hadiths such as: "The most severely punished of people is a woman who disobeys her husband," and "There are three whose prayers do not rise above their heads: ... a woman who disobeys her husband"?

It is recommended to supplicate and seek the help of virtuous people to reconcile the parents, bearing in mind that a wife's obedience to her husband is obligatory in matters that do not involve disobedience to Allah. It is desirable that this obedience extends to matters of marriage and its related aspects. A woman is not permitted to go out to work except with her husband's consent. The khimar (head covering) is obligatory by the consensus of scholars, whereas there is a difference of opinion regarding the niqab (face veil). The predominant view is that a wife's obedience to her husband in this matter is obligatory, provided there is nothing in it that she believes to be forbidden. The father should try to gently persuade the mother about the niqab, and we advise the mother to be keen on covering her face. It is preferable to involve knowledgeable and sincere people to counsel her on this matter.
