What is the ruling on owning stuffed dolls and non-venerated cartoon drawings? Do they prevent angels from entering the house? Should magazines containing cartoon pictures be discarded? What are the scholarly opinions regarding non-sacred images and statues?
"Images of animate beings are prohibited, whether they are statues or drawings. An exception is made for children's dolls, due to necessity, provided they are not taken for adornment. If the doll in question is for adornment, then it is not permissible, and the fact that it is not for glorification does not make its possession permissible. As for a cup that contains cartoon images of animate beings, if it is for use and is treated with disregard, then there is no harm in it. However, if it is for adornment, then it is not permissible, and in this case, the features of the image must be effaced or its head cut off for its possession to be permissible. Regarding the questioner, if he does not have knowledge to compare the sayings of scholars, then he must act according to the fatwa of someone whose knowledge and religiosity he trusts."
