Itikaf is to stay in the mosque for the obedience of Allah. It is a Sunnah (definition) and is recommended according to the Qur’an, Sunnah, and scholarly consensus. It is permissible for women, as the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him) observed Itikaf after him. A woman may observe Itikaf in any mosque, except for the mosque within her house. A woman's Itikaf is restricted by the absence of fitna (temptation/strife). If fitna is feared, she is prohibited, such as if she observes Itikaf in a mosque where there is no designated area for women.
