The answer

Marital life is a blessing, a form of completion, and a collaboration. Both spouses should recognize this, and thank God for it by fulfilling their duties towards each other, and mutual respect should prevail between them, as Allah Almighty says: "And due to them [the wives] is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable."

If the husband does not fulfill his duties, he should be advised with wisdom and good counsel, and frequent supplication should be made for his well-being. Assistance should also be sought from righteous individuals who hold a respected position with him, especially concerning prayer, as Allah Almighty says: "And establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing."

If the husband's situation improves, then praise be to Allah. Otherwise, the wife has the right to seek a divorce due to harm. However, the wife should not hasten to divorce unless its benefit outweighs the harm, especially if there are children, due to the negative consequences it may have on them.

If the divorce is revocable (the first or second), the wife is considered as a wife as long as she is within her waiting period (iddah) and she observes her iddah in her husband's home. If the waiting period ends, she becomes a stranger to him, so she should not uncover herself in front of him, nor should he be in seclusion with her. It does not matter if they are in the same family house as long as the apartments are separate.
