How is unpaid Zakat for money and gold together compensated, if the money has reached the nisab of silver while the gold alone has not reached the nisab, and I previously thought that they should not be combined to pay Zakat?
If the questioner has money that reaches the nisab (threshold) for silver, and gold that is less than its nisab, and she paid the zakat on the money based on the nisab for silver without combining the gold, then there is no blame upon her. This is because the issue of combining gold and silver to complete the nisab is a matter of dispute among scholars, and jurists have not reached a consensus on combining them. The view of not combining them is narrated from Imam Ahmad. As long as the questioner has acted in accordance with the opinion of some scholars, we hope that her obligation has been fulfilled. She can act according to the principle of combining in the future.
