Is prostration necessary when reciting an verse of prostration from the Quran translated into English?

The preponderant view is that the prostration of recitation (Sajdat al-Tilawah) is a Sunnah, not an obligation. The majority of scholars based this on the hadith of Zayd ibn Thabit and Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with them both. The translated Qur'an is not the Qur'an itself, but rather an interpretation of it. Therefore, it is not prescribed to prostrate for the recitation of an ayah of prostration in a language other than Arabic, because what is being recited in this case is not the Qur'an.
