Is it permissible to keep ornaments made of silver in the house for decoration?

The ruling on acquiring artifacts for decoration varies depending on their type. If they are in the form of living beings (such as humans or animals), then it is forbidden to possess them, due to the hadith of Jibreel which explained that angels do not enter a house in which there are statues, and commanded that the head of the statue be cut off so that it becomes like the form of a tree. As for statues in the form of inanimate objects, it is permissible to acquire them.

An exception to this is anything made of silver, as it is not permissible to use it for decoration, even if it is an inanimate object, for two reasons: First, the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade eating and drinking from vessels of gold and silver. If this is forbidden when there is a need, then decoration is even more deserving of prohibition. Second, it involves extravagance and squandering of wealth, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade squandering wealth.
