Is zakat obligatory upon the wife from her own private wealth, even though her husband pays zakat on her behalf, and what should she do if she does not possess private wealth?

It is permissible for a husband to pay his wife's Zakat from his own money, provided that she is aware and he intends that what he pays is the Zakat for her money, and that the money paid out is not counted as part of his own Zakat. If a woman does not have cash to pay the Zakat on her wealth (such as jewelry), and no one pays it on her behalf, then she should pay the Zakat from the wealth itself, such as giving a portion of the gold or selling a part of it and paying Zakat with its value. The amount of Zakat is a quarter of a tenth (2.5%) of the wealth that has reached the nisab and on which a year has passed.
