What is the ruling on reciting weak morning and evening remembrances (adhkar) that some scholars, such as Sheikh Al-Albani, have judged to be weak?

The most accurate opinion is that a weak (da'if) hadith is not to be acted upon, neither in matters of virtuous deeds (fada'il al-a'mal) nor in anything else. This is the choice of Imam Muslim and a group of scholars, and many of our contemporary scholars, including العلامة Ibn Uthaymeen and Sheikh Al-Albani.

Some scholars have stipulated three conditions for acting upon a weak hadith in matters of virtuous deeds: 1. That its weakness is not severe. 2. That it has a basis (in the Sharia). 3. That one does not believe the Prophet (peace be upon him) actually said it.

However, the authentic hadiths transmitted from the Prophet (peace be upon him) suffice for this purpose.
