Is it permissible to take family members to wedding parties that include objectionable acts (such as ostentatious display, music, and dancing)? And is this considered participation in sin, especially if the father views it as an obligatory act of maintaining kinship ties and refuses to be convinced otherwise?

Allah has commanded obedience to parents in matters that do not involve disobedience to Allah, as the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Obedience is only in what is good, and there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator." Transporting them to parties where there is disobedience is helping them in sin, and Allah has forbidden us from that by saying: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression." Therefore, there is no obedience to the parent in that, but one must be dutiful to them and accompany them in this world with kindness, as Allah Almighty said: "But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, then do not obey them, but accompany them in this world with kindness." And part of accompanying them with kindness is advising them gently, leniently, and with good speech.
