What is the ruling on importing bones from European countries that contain pig bones, to be used in the manufacture of wood glue and calcium phosphate for poultry feed?
It is not permissible to buy or sell pigs or their parts, due to the Almighty's saying: (Say, "I do not find in what has been revealed to me anything forbidden to be eaten by one who eats it, except that it be a dead animal, or blood poured forth, or the flesh of swine — for indeed, that is impure"), and because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade its sale. However, if a person is compelled to obtain pig bone, and there is no alternative material available, it is permissible for him to buy it out of necessity. It is permissible to utilize pig bone in the manufacture of glue, because bones are considered in the same category as the fat of a dead animal, which is forbidden to sell but not to benefit from.
