Are the Houri of Paradise for both males and females, or only for females? And what are the male youths whom God created in Paradise called, and what is their role?
The Houris are females and are wives for the men of Paradise, as stated in Sahih Muslim. As for the Ghilman (youths/boys) who circulate among the people of Paradise, they do not have a specific known name. Allah the Almighty has described them as being of utmost beauty, for they are "hidden pearls" and "scattered pearls." They present to the people of Paradise cups and ewers of the drink of Paradise, fruits, and bird meat. These Ghilman are exclusively for service. Some exegetes, such as Al-Hasan al-Basri, were of the opinion that they are the children of the people of this world who had neither good deeds nor bad deeds, and thus they serve the people of Paradise.
