What is the status and virtue of Zamzam water, and why do Muslims keen on it?

Zamzam water is the most noble and honorable of all waters. It is the spring opened by Gabriel and Allah's drink for Ishmael. It is authentically reported in Sahih Muslim that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Abu Dharr: "Indeed, it is blessed; it is food that satisfies." And others besides Muslim added: "And a cure for illness." It is narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: "Zamzam water is for what it is drunk for." The Salaf and scholars have acted upon this hadith. When drinking it, one should intend what they wish to achieve with this water and drink their fill, meaning to fill their stomach, because drinking one's fill from it is a sign of faith due to the blessings it contains.
