What is the punishment for one who assists or helps in stealing an individual's work and effort and attributes it to another individual, and what is the punishment for the silent individual to whom the work was unjustly attributed?
If the work and effort of an individual can be distinguished, then he is most entitled to it, and it is not permissible to deprive him of his right or attribute it to others. Whoever does so is an oppressor, a liar, and a false witness, and he must repent and restore the right to its owner. Whoever aids in such an act is mistaken and transgressing, for Allah the Almighty says: (And do not cooperate in sin and aggression). He, too, must repent. As for one who remains silent about an evil, if he is unable to denounce it or if doing so would cause him harm, then nothing is required of him. Otherwise, he must denounce it, in compliance with the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; if he cannot, then with his heart, and that is the weakest of faith."
