Does the repetition of calamities after persistent supplication indicate something that prevents one from continuing to supplicate?

It is recommended to be patient and chaste in seeking Allah's bounty, and this is aided by frequent fasting, guarding one's hearing and sight, avoiding places of temptation, and occupying one's time with beneficial deeds, while seeking Allah's help and frequently engaging in remembrance (dhikr) and supplication (du'a). It is warned against condoning negligence in prayer due to temptations; for calamities are caused by sins, and their cure is repentance and supplication, and prayer is the greatest matter of religion after faith. Repentance and maintaining prayer with humility are obligatory; for it is the key to all goodness, and haste may be among the impediments to the answering of supplication.
