Wearing a black headscarf (ribat) is permissible, even for adornment, as long as it does not involve imitating men. This is because it is a visible adornment, and there is no harm in displaying it. The Muslim woman should beware of displaying her beauty provocatively (tabarruj) and avoid situations that incite suspicion. She should not go out except for a need, wearing a full and flowing hijab (definition).
