Is kindness to relatives and bringing them gifts accepted with the intention of maintaining kinship ties and seeking reward from Allah, even if met with ingratitude and ridicule, and are gifts in this case considered charity?

The Sharia (definition) has forbidden alienation and estrangement among Muslims, especially among kin, and has commanded the maintenance of kinship ties while prohibiting their severance. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "It is not lawful for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three [days]," and he also said: "The one who severs ties of kinship will not enter Paradise."

Therefore, one should be keen to maintain ties with siblings and show kindness to them, even if they mistreat one, seeking the pleasure of Allah. This is based on his (peace be upon him) saying to one who was ill-treated by his relatives: "If you are as you say, then it is as if you are feeding them hot ashes, and you will continue to have a supporter from Allah against them as long as you persist in that."

And if they are in need, spending on them is both charity and the maintenance of kinship ties, as the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Charity given to the poor is charity, and it is both charity and the maintenance of kinship ties when given to a relative."

Maintaining kinship ties is among the causes of blessing in one's sustenance and lifespan, as the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever wishes that his provision be expanded for him or his life extended, let him maintain his ties of kinship." Thus, your kindness to them is a righteous deed for which Allah will reward you.
