How can a Muslim know if his supplication involves aggression, and what is the recompense for one who aggresses in supplication unknowingly?

Transgression in supplication means exceeding the limits in it. This occurs by asking for something that is not permissible in Islamic law, such as sin or cutting off ties of kinship, or something that contradicts the established ways of Allah, such as raising one's voice and shouting, or asking for the stations of prophets, or using excessive rhymed prose. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that transgression includes asking for assistance in unlawful acts, or asking for something that Allah does not do, such as immortality, or removal of human necessities, or knowledge of the unseen, or infallibility, or requesting a child without a spouse. Sin befalls the one who transgresses intentionally, but the one who makes a mistake is excused; as Allah the Almighty says: "And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred, but [only for] what your hearts intended," and as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Allah has pardoned for my nation their mistakes, their forgetfulness, and what they are forced to do." One should learn the matters of his religion.
