Is it permissible to change my name, even though my deceased grandmother was the one who named me, and even though my father named me with it to please my grandmother, and he is displeased with it?

It is permissible to change a name out of necessity, as long as it does not harm its owner or society. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, changed the names of some of his companions. Changing a name becomes obligatory if the name contradicts Islamic creed, such as "Abd Al-Uzza" (servant of Al-Uzza), and it is forbidden if the new name is among those prohibited by Islamic law.
