Good intercession is mediation in bringing about good or averting evil rightfully. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, encouraged it by saying: "Intercede, and you will be rewarded, and Allah will decree through the tongue of His Prophet what He wills," and "Whoever can benefit his brother, let him do so." As for bad intercession, it is mediation to prevent justice or affirm falsehood. An example of this is Usama's intercession for the thieving woman, which the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, disapproved of.
