Is it permissible to marry a man who does not pray and drinks alcohol?
It is not permissible for a guardian to marry off his ward to someone who abandons prayer or drinks alcohol, nor is it permissible for her to accept such a marriage, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "If someone whose religion and character you approve comes to you [to marry your daughter], then marry her to him; otherwise, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption." One who abandons prayer and one who drinks alcohol are not approved in their religion. Abandoning prayer out of denial is an act of disbelief, and one who drinks alcohol is a transgressor. It is not permissible for a woman who is married to someone whose state has become thus to remain with him; therefore, it is even more impermissible for her to initiate marriage with him.
