What is the legal ruling on imported meat from India labeled "Slaughtered According to Islamic Rites" (Halal)?

The default ruling for slaughtered animals is that they are impermissible to eat. This default is applied in cases of doubt. Therefore, it is not permissible to eat imported meats or meats sold in countries inhabited by both those whose slaughter is permissible and those whose slaughter is not, unless those whose slaughter is permissible form the majority of the inhabitants. For permissibility, it is a condition to have certainty or strong conjecture that the animal was slaughtered by a Muslim. The phrase "slaughtered according to Islamic rites" is not sufficient, as it might be for marketing purposes.
