What is the ruling on eating imported and local chicken and meat from Muslim countries, given strong doubts about the permissibility of its slaughter and the mention of God's name upon it, as well as imported meat from Christian countries where stunning may occur before slaughter? And am I sinful if I consume it due to the lack of an alternative, or to avoid embarrassment and social problems? And what should I do at banquets and invitations from relatives where such meats are served?

The default rule regarding the slaughtered animals of Muslims is that they conform to the rulings of Islamic law, so they are permissible to eat, based on the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): "A group of people said: 'O Messenger of Allah, some people bring us meat and we do not know whether the name of Allah was mentioned over it or not?' He said: 'Mention the name of Allah yourselves and eat.' She said: 'And they had recently embraced Islam.'" Narrated by Al-Bukhari. As for imported meats: If they are from the slaughter of Muslims or People of the Book who do not stun animals with electricity or similar methods, then they are permissible to eat; otherwise, they are not. Abstaining from eating meat slaughtered in Muslim lands is considered excessive scrupulousness (tanattu'), unlike imported meats from the countries of the People of the Book, where abstaining from them is good due to the strong doubt surrounding them.
