Is the father entitled to request a portion of the dowry from his daughter after her engagement is annulled, knowing that he refused to divorce her until she gave him money, and he had not previously spent on her?

If the father is poor, supporting him is obligatory, and the able son's refusal to do so is an act of disobedience ( 'Uquq ) and forbidden.

However, if the father is wealthy, the majority of scholars believe that the father is not entitled to take anything from his son's money except with his consent. Whereas the Hanbalis are of the view that it is permissible for the father to take from his son's money even without need, provided that he does not cause undue hardship to the son's money or harm him, and that he does not take to give to another child.

If the father is not in need, the daughter is not obligated to give him from her mahr (dowry) or her money, but it is preferable to give him what does not harm her.

There is no blame for hating the father due to his injustice, but this hatred should not lead to disobedience and aggression, because honoring parents is among the best deeds, and patience with them is among the reasons for Allah's pleasure.
