Children must honor their parents and obey them in what is right. It is not permissible to obey one parent in cutting ties with the other. The mentioned acts of mistreating the father, dealing with him harshly, and neglecting his care during his illness constitute disobedience to him. Cursing the father is one of the most severe forms of disobedience. True repentance erases sins and involves abstaining from the sin, regretting it, and resolving not to return to it. It is recommended to perform many good deeds, be dutiful to the mother, and compensate for past failings towards the father by praying for him, giving charity on his behalf, maintaining kinship ties, and honoring his friends.
