Does the supplication of the oppressed for the oppressor alleviate his punishment on the Day of Resurrection?

The oppressor must return what he wrongfully took to its rightful owners, whether it be material or moral. If the moral wrongdoing can be absolved by seeking forgiveness from the wronged person without causing harm, then that is the prescribed course of action. Otherwise, the oppressor should frequently pray for the wronged person, seek forgiveness for them, and praise them among people, and it is hoped that Allah will alleviate his burden thereby. The supplication of the wronged person against the oppressor lightens the oppressor's sin, just as the oppressor's supplication for the wronged person after repentance and striving to rid himself of the consequences of the wrongdoing may also lighten his burden.
