What is the ruling regarding a man's statement, "If I acquire the necessary money to divorce my wife, I will divorce her if she remains with her current character," made without an oath? Is he considered sinful, and will his wife's prayer against him be answered after Allah has blessed him?
Marital life is built upon affection and mercy, and both spouses must fear Allah in their duties. The husband should find excuses for his wife and assist her, and he should remember the words of Allah Almighty: (And live with them honorably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing and Allah brings through it much good.) The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also said: "No believing man should hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another."
You must advise your wife with gentleness and kindness, seeking help from Allah and righteous people. If all avenues of reconciliation are exhausted and coexistence becomes impossible, then divorce is a solution. Your threat to divorce her when you acquire money is not a conditional divorce. And if divorce occurs without injustice to the wife, the husband is not sinful, and her supplications against him will not be answered because he did not wrong her.
