What is the ruling on someone who is forced to divorce his wife to please someone else, and what should he do?

The majority of scholars have stipulated that the divorce of one who is coerced does not take effect if the coercion is compelling (mulji'an). This occurs through inflicting pain upon the coerced person or their child, or by taking property that harms them, or by threatening with one of these matters by someone capable of carrying out their threat. However, if a man divorces his wife merely to please someone, without pain or threat, then the divorce takes effect, and this is not considered coercion.
