What is the jurisprudential position regarding the martyrs of the Iraqi-Iranian War from both sides, and what is the ruling on prayer and fasting in the homes granted to the families of martyrs by the former regime?

Those killed in the Iraq-Iran war—their matter is with Allah. A martyr in Islam is he who fought so that the word of Allah would be supreme, and was killed while doing so. Whoever fought out of tribalism, ostentation, or arrogance is not a martyr. As for whoever was killed in rightful defense of his country or his property, he is a martyr. We do not say of a specific person that he is a martyr, rather we say, "Whoever dies or is killed in the way of Allah is a martyr." The homes granted by the state to the families of those killed in the war are a grant, and there is no religious impediment to inhabiting them or praying in them.
