Is it permissible to portray the roles of the Companions and the Successors in visual artistic works (series and films) with the aim of serving Islam and Muslims, especially in light of the influence of modern screens on the youth, provided that controls and conditions are put in place to ensure they are not disrespected and their status is preserved?

The senior scholars and venerable Islamic institutions have unanimously agreed to prohibit the portrayal of the Companions — may Allah be pleased with them — because the harms in it outweigh its benefits. Sheikh Jad al-Haq is of the view that this prohibition extends to include the kin of the Prophet, to protect them from representation and impersonation. He stressed the necessity of removing any portrayal of prophets, their kin, or their Companions in artistic works, because warding off harm takes precedence over acquiring benefits. The opening of the door to portrayal without restrictions has led to allowing the depiction of prophets.
