To what extent is the hadith of Aisha authentic, found in Imam Ahmad's Musnad and other collections: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, died while he was between my chest and my chin, and during my turn; and I did not wrong anyone in that. It was due to my foolishness and young age that the Messenger of Allah passed away while he was in my lap, then I placed his head on a pillow; and I stood up weeping with the women, striking my face"?
Imam Ahmad and others narrated the hadith of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, regarding the death of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, between her chest and chin, and on her day, and that she placed a pillow under his head, then stood up weeping and beating her chest. Its chain of narration is hasan (good), and Ibn Ishaq explicitly stated direct narration, which negates the suspicion of tadlis (concealment). The core of the hadith is established in the Two Sahihs, but without the addition: "And from the foolishness of my opinion, and my young age..."
The phrase in which she "stood up beating her chest" (taltadim) contains an objectionable element (nakarah), and it has not been reported except in this context. Lady Aisha knew the prohibition of "slapping cheeks and tearing garments." If it were to be believed, she explained that she did it out of "the foolishness of her opinion and her young age," and by doing so, she herself condemned the act. Believers are not required to be infallible, but rather not to persist in error.
