Is it permissible for me to engrave "Allah" on a ring?

It is permissible for a man to wear a silver ring engraved with the word "Allah" (the majestic word for God) or similar phrases. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, wore a silver ring engraved with "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." It has also been reported that many of the early Muslims (Salaf) had words containing the majestic word for God engraved on their rings, such as "Praise be to Allah," "Allah is the King," "In the name of Allah," and "All might belongs to Allah." Further evidence for its permissibility is what Ibn Abi Shaybah narrated with an authentic chain from Ibn Sirin, who saw no harm in a man engraving "Allah is sufficient for me" or similar phrases on his ring. The dislike (karahah) that has been reported from some scholars might be limited to cases where there is a concern about wearing it during ritual impurity (for a person in a state of janabah (definition) or a menstruating woman) or using the hand with the ring for ritual cleansing (istinja (definition)'). In such instances, the dislike would be due to what might happen to the ring, not because of the ring itself.
