How is inheritance divided among three sons, three daughters, and a wife?

If the heirs are limited to the wife and children, the wife receives one-eighth due to the presence of a lineal descendant, as Allah Almighty says: "But if you have a child, then for them [the wives] is one eighth of what you leave." The remainder is divided among the children by way of ta'sib (residuary heirship), with the male receiving the equivalent of the share of two females, as Allah Almighty says: "Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females." The original denominator for the estate is eight, but it is adjusted to seventy-two shares for proper distribution. The wife receives nine shares. Each male receives fourteen shares, and each female receives seven shares.
