Is it obligatory for children to slaughter a sheep from their mother's money—their mother who is afflicted with Alzheimer's—as an ‘aqiqah for her, if their grandfather (the mother's father) did not do so?

The majority of jurists hold that it is permissible to interdict someone who has become elderly and whose mind has changed, and the matter should be referred to the Sharia court. The mother's wealth must be preserved until the court rules on her case. If the court rules that she is competent, then her permission is necessary to dispose of her wealth. If it rules that she is interdicted, then her wealth may not be disposed of except in ways that benefit her and are in her best interest. Therefore, it is not permissible to perform an Aqiqah on her behalf, nor to give charity from her wealth, nor any other donations. The permissibility of an adult performing Aqiqah for themselves is a matter of scholarly disagreement, with some holding that the Aqiqah is incumbent upon the father and not upon the son once he reaches adulthood.
