Abortion is forbidden at any stage of the fetus, according to the preponderant opinion, and the wife must sincerely repent if there was no genuine excuse. If the abortion occurs after forty days have passed, the blood money (diyah) for the fetus is obligatory, which is one-tenth of the mother's blood money."
