The answer

Most of what is shown on television displeases and angers Allah, and it is not an act of righteousness to share in watching it with your mother. Rather, righteousness towards her lies in gently advising her, reminding her that life is but a countable number of breaths, that deeds are judged by their endings, and that righteous people die while prostrating. Also, remind her of the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "The feet of a servant will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about his life and how he spent it."

You should dedicate more time to sitting with your mother and comforting her, guiding her to good deeds such as reading the Quran, listening to beneficial tapes, maintaining kinship ties, and learning about the stories of the Messenger, the Companions, and the Mothers of the Believers. So, set aside time for studying and times for comforting your mother, for a parent is the middle gate of Paradise.
