Is the obsessive whispering about flaws in the Divine Self, which attacks a person whenever they draw near to God through acts of worship and remembrance, from the self or from Satan, and should one continue to supplicate for its removal despite its persistence?

One should not despair of the mercy of Allah, for His mercy encompasses even disbelievers if they repent, and their evil deeds are transformed into good deeds, as stated in the Noble Verses: "Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them" and "Except for those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds - for them Allah will change their evil deeds into good ones."

As for obsessive thoughts (waswasah), if it is merely a fleeting thought, its cure is to divert one's mind from it. However, if it develops into persistent thoughts, it must be removed through knowledge and evidence by presenting it to trustworthy scholars, for "Indeed is falsehood [by nature] bound to vanish."
