Is refusing to marry a cousin considered disobedience (ʿuqūq) and a reason for hindering marriage opportunities, especially given the mother's disapproval?

It is not an act of disobedience (Uquq) to refuse to marry someone you do not desire, and you are not obligated to obey your mother in this matter, because it is your life. Parents do not have the right to force their child to marry someone they do not want, and the child is not disobedient if they refuse. However, if the suitor is pleasing in his religion and character, then complying with the mother's wish is a form of righteousness (Birr). The mother is not permitted to threaten with displeasure merely because of a refusal to marry.
